Walter L. Engle, Jr. of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 8, 2012, at his residence at the age of 83. He was born on Dec. 7, 1928, to Walter and Jessie Mae (Bruffy) Engle in Danville, Ill., and moved to Terre Haute as a young child.

He married Bonnie Lou Woodruff on Aug. 22, 1954, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Marc and wife Melody Engle of Lebanon, Tenn.; and a daughter, Michelle Chapman and husband Al of Shreveport, La. Walter also leaves behind two granddaughters, Leslie Seamark and husband Doug of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Ryanne Comerford and husband Kenn of Shreveport; great-grandchildren, Alex, Eddie, Ella and Grace Seamark and Josephine and Robert Augustus Comerford.

Walter served as a marine in Korea. He graduated from Indiana State University and taught at Garfield and Terre Haute North High Schools. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 19 and the Scottish Rite.

There will be no services. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at:
