James Earnest Roy, 83, of Terre Haute, died on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at the Veteran’s Hospice in Danville, Ill. He was born in Fort Wayne, on Jan. 23, 1929, to Cecilia Barbara Roy and Joseph Earnest Roy. He graduated from St. Joseph Elementary School, Gerstmeyer High School, and attended Rose Poly Technical Institute. He retired from Western Tar in Terre Haute, where he worked in security.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in a heavy mortar company. He saw action at Heartbreak Ridge and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and Korean War Campaign Medals.
He was an avid history buff, and was active in the Terre Haute Chess Club. He enjoyed Western Dancing.
Funeral arrangements have been made by Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with interment at Calvary Cemetery. Services are private and a memorial Mass will be scheduled at St. Patrick Church at a later date. Online condolences can be made at: www.callahanfuneralhome.com
