TERRE HAUTE —
Jerome Oliver Angermeier, “Jerry” of Terre Haute, died Tuesday Sept. 4, 2012 at Union Hospital, he was 83. Jerry was born on March 7, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana to Joseph and Irene Angermeier.
Jerry loved playing football with his buddies at Reitz Memorial High School, was honored to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Boxer, was a proud business graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He met and fell in love with Janet Lex in college. They started a life together in Indiana, Pennsylvania and settled in Terre Haute. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Jerry owned gas stations, an oil distribution company and a commercial real estate company. He and Janet built a home and raised five children. Jerry never met a stranger and made many lifelong friends in the Wabash Valley. In addition to traveling with Janet, he enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, golfing, fishing, hunting, playing poker at the Aero Club, and painting.
Jerry was deeply inspired by the poem “Desiderata” by Terre Haute native Max Ehrmann. It concludes with “With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”
Preceding him in death was his wife, Janet Teresa Lex Angermeier; one daughter, Danette Angermeier, his brothers, Joe and Bob Angermeier, and sisters Jackie Bruce and Babe Freeman. Jerry is survived by three daughters, one son and two grandchildren: Deborah Crawford and her husband Mac Crawford; Donna Vohland and her husband Tim Vohland; Jerry’s grandchildren, Alex and Taylor Vohland; and Diane Angermeier and Kurt Angermeier and their partners.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be conducted Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday September 7, and Saturday September 8, 2012 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. in the Funeral Home. Immediately following the committal services at the cemetery, the family will be having a luncheon. The location will be announced after services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Celiac Foundation, 20350 Ventura Blvd. Ste 240, Woodland Hills, CA 91364, or at http://www.celiac.org/ donate.html.
