Shelia Marie Stadler, 68, went to be with the Lord she loved on Friday, March 8, 2013, after a valiant battle with cancer. Her courage and positive attitude were an inspiration to many people.
She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur William; and three children, Andrew Paul of Riley, John Ralph of Clay City, and Mary Amy of Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by a young daughter, Bonnie Lucille on March 17, 1989. Also mourning her loss are her grandchildren, Michelle, Mindy, Michael, Ben and Lucy, Ashley, Austin and Alex, Jonathan and Breanna; and great-grandchild, Dakota.
Shelia was born Oct. 11, 1944, in Tecumseh, Neb., the daughter of John and Lela Kroeze. She was raised on a farm and graduated from business school as an excellent accountant. Her siblings are Sylvia Henry of San Bernardino, Calif., Eleanor Hill of Bakersfield, Calif., Bernard Kroeze of Omaha, Neb., the Rev. Darrel Kroeze of Berlington, N.C., Shirley Kroeze of Lincoln, Neb., Jim Kroeze of Glendale, Calif., and the Rev. Jon Kroeze of Pittsfield, Mo. She was preceded in death by a young brother, Gary Kroeze, in 1974.
Shelia spent her life as a dedicated homemaker and loving wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, singing, and playing the keyboard. She was a committed Christian, enjoying camp meetings, and singing and playing for church services. Her favorite book was the Bible, which she faithfully read for many years. The last few years she listened to it on audio tapes, but still carried that wonderful book with her as a comfort during her last days. She loved Toffee, her seeing-eye dog and constant companion for five years.
Shelia spent many years (1986-2006) working as a barber with her husband, Art, in the Stadler Barber Shop, which she owned. She will be remembered for her skill at cutting hair and her sweet smile greeting all those coming in the shop.
Shelia will be missed by a host of friends and relatives; especially Art, her husband of 46 years.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 14, 2013, Friday, March 15, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 1. p.m., in Terre Haute Friends Church at 9 1⁄2 and Wheeler St., in Terre Haute, with funeral services starting at 1 p.m., with the Revs. David Lowe and Wesley Fish officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Lawn Cemetery in Brazil. DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at:
