Roy Emil Prewett

MARSHALL, Ill. — Roy Emil Prewett, 89, of Greenwood, Ind., formerly of Marshall, Ill., passed away 8:25 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013, at his home. He was a retired farmer and was retired from the Marshall School District. He was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Douglas Township in Clark County, the son of Charles Robert and Lauretta Kathryn Becker Prewett. He married Anna Ruth Crecelius on Sept. 2, 1956, at Union Christian Church, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jennie Prewett of Greenwood, and Judie Prewett of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by a son, John Roy Prewett in 1977; and his siblings, Richard Quick Prewett, Clarence Granville Prewett, Robert Dan Prewett, Kathryn Sue Prewett Leaveck and George Louis Prewett.

Roy was a 1942 graduate of Marshall Township High School, and he, with Don McNary, were co-captains of the 1940-1941 Wabash Valley Basketball Team champions. He was a former member of 4H and FFA, and always enjoyed farm life. He developed a great ability as a carpenter.

He retired from the Marshall schools in 2005, and was honored by the Marshall School Board with a plaque and special ceremony for his many years of devoted service. He also served on the election board and the ASCS boards representing Anderson Township. He was a member of Marshall Lodge 133 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, and Riley Order of Eastern Star Chapter 22, where he was worthy patron.

He was an avid horseman, he raised and trained Quarter Horses and in 1951 his horse, Dixie, was the Illinois Champion Cutting Horse.

In 1958 he became an ordained deacon of the Christian Church. He accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 6 and was baptized at Blizzard Ford on Big Creek, near Marshall.

Services in honor of his life will be 1:30 p.m. CDT Wednesday at Pearce Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon until service time Wednesday.
