TERRE HAUTE — Austin E. “Pete” Kehoe, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, in Southwood Nursing Home. He retired as an engineer from Conrail Railroad Company after 43 years of service beginning with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. He was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Vigo County, to Richard Kehoe and Lillian Evans Kehoe.

Survivors include his wife, Charity Strole Evinger Kehoe; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jayne Kehoe of Clinton; three stepchildren, Rick Evinger and wife Gale of Fort Wayne, Terry Evinger and wife Flo of West Terre Haute, and Tammy Evinger of Terre Haute; two grandsons, Gary Kehoe Jr., and Kevin Kehoe; four great-grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Kehoe in 1983; his second wife, Billie Kehoe in 1993; his parents; and a sister, Katherine Davidson.

Pete was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, during which he was stationed in the South Pacific. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. In his earlier years he played American Legion Baseball. He was also a member of the Retired Railroaders Association, the Moose Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972.

Pete's funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Abe Miller officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 972. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastside Church of Christ, or the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer's Association, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
