TERRE HAUTE —
Margie W. (Smith) Butland, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away on Oct. 23, 2012. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Vigo County, to Robert C. and Mabel M. (Campbell) Smith. She retired from Columbia Records Corporation as an artwork coordinator/group leader. She married Wilburn Butland Jr., and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded by a sister, Dorothy Chappelle; and brothers, Larry Smith, Bill Smith, James Smith, and Robert Smith.
She was a member of the auxiliaries of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. She also belonged to Beta Sigma Pi Chapter Laureate Gamma ETA.
Her survivors include one sister, Mary Jane Coombes; one brother, Jack Smith and wife Charlotte; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and four sisters-in-law, Ruth Cox, Lois Smith, Shirley Smith, and Rachel Smith.
Keeping with her wishes private family services have been arranged by DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. Online condolences can be offered at:
