Frances A. Lucas Reagin Brazzell, 81, of rural West Terre Haute, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, in her residence. She retired from Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company in Terre Haute after many years of service.
She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and homemaker. Frances was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Lincoln Park, Mich. She married her husband, Ray L. Brazzell on July 22, 1948, in Terre Haute and he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2005, after 56 years of marriage.
Frances and Ray built a home for their family on ground they purchased in rural West Terre Haute. Over the years while raising eight children they developed this land into a beautiful, well manicured and landscaped home and estate with lakes and ponds that she and Ray and their families built themselves. While making a home and cooking for a family of ten, Frances always welcomed any of her children’s friends who stayed over for dinner. She was called mother by many and often times gave rides and shuttled her children and their friends and other neighbor kids to and from events at school be it practices and games for sports or band. She was affectionately known by Mom, Mrs. B., B, Nanie B, or Sis.
Frances is survived by her eight children: three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Mike Miedema of Hockley, Texas, Kathy and Bob Roush of West Terre Haute, and Raynel and Larry McLaren of West Terre Haute; five sons, Steve and Janet Brazzell of Terhune, Ind., Doug and Paula Brazzell of Madill, Okla., Brad and Debbie Brazzell of Houston, Craig Brazzell of Arlington, Texas and West Terre Haute, and Keith and Roxanne Brazzell of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Becky Reagin of South Carolina; two sisters, Jodell Brown of Colorado, and Connie and Dave Rector of Terre Haute; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank James Lucas; her mother and stepfather, Idell and George Reagin; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Brazzell; and two brothers, Jimmy and Pat Reagin.
She was an active member of the Barbour Avenue United Methodist Church and Women’s group, and the Shepardsville Booster Club. Frances was an extraordinary woman with extraordinary strength. She was truly a Proverbs thirty one woman.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., West Terre Haute, with Earl Rodgers officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and prior to services Monday. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.fitzpatrick-funeralhome.com
