PARIS, IL — Floyd Matthew “Goog” Wright, 94, of Paris, passed away at 4:20 a.m. EDT Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was retired after 57 years of farming grain and livestock in Hunter and Stratton Townships in Edgar County. He was born June 17, 1918, in Edgar County, Ill., the son of the late Cash Y. Wright Sr. and the late Katherine Justina (Merkel) Wright. He married Maxine Sisson on Feb. 1, 1940, in Paris, and she survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda (John) Schneider, a brother, Cash Wright Jr., and a sister, Elenora Smittkamp, all of Paris; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Wil) Reyes of Indianapolis, and Steven Schneider (Dr. Thomas Gibbs) of Marietta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Sterling and Lincoln Reyes, both of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews; and an extended family of friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert M. Wright; and a sister, Marie Johns.

Mr. Wright was a devoted and active member of the Edgar County Farm Bureau and Illinois Farm Bureau Federation throughout his working life and after retirement. He and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling through their work with the Farm Bureau. He was active and interested in Republican Party politics for many years. He also was an avid supporter of his daughter and grandchildren in their school and athletic activities, and was very committed to attending their various functions and events. Above all else, he loved farming, spending time with his family and friends, and caring for his beloved dogs and ponies.

Services celebrating his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Templeton Funeral Home, 600 E. Court St., in Paris. Burial will follow in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Sterling & Lincoln Reyes Education Fund in care of First Farmers Bank & Trust of Paris. Online condolences may be made at:
