Judith Kay Pearson, 72, of Terre Haute, passed away with her loving family by her side on her farm, “Pearson’s Green Acres,” on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at 4:40 a.m. She was born on Sept. 9, 1940, to Robert Francis and Mary Alice (Sankey) Francis.
She graduated from Honey Creek High School. There, she was very active and served as class president and basketball queen. She went on and earned her bachelor of science and master of arts degree in education from Indiana State University. During her teaching career, she taught at North Elementary, Pimento Elementary, and Hoosier Prairie Elementary. Judith retired from Vigo County School Corporation after 28 years of teaching. She was a member of the Wabash Valley Horseman Association and crowned Queen of Cowgirls, president of the Junior National Rifle Association, where she qualified as Marksman First-Class, Gamma Phi Beta, VCTA, Order of Eastern Star, and 4-H, where she had served as a leader and earned many awards and accomplishments. Judith enjoyed art, playing cards, and sports including fast pitch softball and bowling, and going to horse shows. She raised quarter horses, and some of her horses won national and state awards. She also loved Elvis. Judith loved spending time with her family and thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren.
Judith was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, and the love of her life Richard Kenneth Pearson; and her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Lou Hux and Lora Kay Taylor; grandson, Jordan Taylor; two granddaughters, Alexis Hux and Madison Rice.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at 1 p.m., at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. The Rev. Ken Coffman will be officiating. Burial will be at New Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, from 4 until 8 p.m. Online condolences can be made at: www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
