John Frederick Robbins, 47, died at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis, unexpectedly Oct. 11, 2012, following knee surgery. John was born Oct. 23, 1964, in Vigo County. John was the first born son of Lynda (Spurlock) Robbins Girton and the late Max Robbins and the stepson of the late Don Girton. He graduated from Brazil High School and Ivy Tech.
John loved being in the outdoors, spending time at his cabin at the river, riding his Harleys and running his little repair shop and becoming a friend to most everyone he met. In his earlier years John ran the repair shop at Robbins Sales and Service on Walnut Street.
He took great pride in taking care of his mother and grandkids. His greatest joy in life was his family, and going to the river with his brother, sister-in-law, and grandson, Ethan.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Irene Spurlock, whom he called Mommo and Poppo; his father; stepfather; his first wife and mother of his children, Ronica Paddock Robbins; his second wife and mother of his stepchildren, Vicki Wilmouth Robbins; and two little nephews, William Brandon and Jeffery Robbins.
He leaves behind his mother; son, Johnnie Robbins; daughter, Kayla (Robbins) and husband Adam Raines; stepchildren, Nick Kirkling, Danielle Flora, Jamie Brush, and Darin Brush. He also leaves his brothers and sisters-in-law, William Patrick Robbins and wife Johnna and Joseph Robbins and wife Jayme; five grandchildren that he was so proud of, Bralynn Robbins, his study buddy Aiden Simonson, his fishing buddy Ethan Robbins and two little buddies, Kingston Robbins and Preston Robbins; five stepgrandchildren, Tyler, Tanner, Grayson, Coleson and Kailyn; aunt, Brenda Kennedy; uncles, Bill and Steve Spurlock; his third wife and still good friend Tami Davis; niece, Lori Ann Robbins with whom he had an extremely close relationship; his little nephew, Max Robbins; as well as many cousins.
Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastor Ernie Rush officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Private family burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. Light a candle in his memory at: www.frenchfuneralhome.com
