Rachel Emeline Allen-Tyler

Rachel Emeline Allen-Tyler, “te-tex” 92, passed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at 1440 1st Ave., in the presence of her loving family. She was born March 12, 1920, in Terre Haute, to Bertie and Bertha Mae Norton-Allen. She attended Vigo County Public School System. She was a homemaker. She was a 50-year plus member of Mount of Olives Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she served as a deaconess, former treasurer, former church clerk, former community service leader, former Sabbath school superintendent and Sabbath school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Z. (big train) Tyler; one son, Raymond L. Tyler; two brothers, Chester N. Allen and Bertie C. Allen; sisters, Sadie Underwood, Bertha Phillips, Esther Flowers, Lena Mae Carson, Reva West, Chlora Chandler, and Cozetta Allen. She is survived by three sons, Bertie C. Tyler Sr. (Deanna), Lloyd V. Tyler (Donna Bell), and William D. Tyler Sr. (Cheryl), all of Terre Haute; five daughters, Delores M. Simpson (James) Terre Haute, Ethel M. Norton (Orville, Sr.) Raylan F. Dillard (Mickey), Diann Bullard, all of Terre Haute, and Thelma S. Gray of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Eula Williams of Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Louise Stewart of Terre Haute; 32 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Services will be 12 noon Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Mount of Olives Seventh Day Adventist, 1322 S. 13th St., with Dr. Donald Morris officiating, with visitation at 10 a.m. until services at the church. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery. Donations can be made to Terre Haute Seventh Day Adventist Christian Education Department or to Terre Haute Vista Care.
