Jean Strobel Pugh

TERRE HAUTE — Jean Strobel Pugh, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in Indianapolis Veterans Administration Hospital. Jean was born in Terre Haute, on Dec. 4, 1921, to Roscoe Smith and Sarah Elizabeth Cooprider.  

Survivors include her children, Chuck Strobel and wife Peggy, Jim Strobel and former wife Sara Jane, and Sarah Strobel. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Chris Strobel and wife Kim, Greg Strobel, Matt Strobel, Mike Strobel and wife Jill, and Aimee Layton. In addition, other survivors include her great-grandchildren; Alicia, Alexus, Kaitlyn, Brett, Nate, Eli, Anya, Zoa, Asher, Harper, and Abby Rose; as well as a great-great-grandson, Jaxson Levi.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Pugh; mother, Sarah Elizabeth Cooprider; as well as her siblings, Frank Cooprider, Lois Brentlinger, and Joan Shewmaker.

Jean was a WAAC Veteran of World War II, in which she served as a cook/baker and butcher. She was a member of Wayne Newton American Legion Post 346, where she spent many happy hours on Saturday afternoons, socializing with friends and keeping up with legion activities, as well as following the American Legion Baseball Teams.  

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 12 noon in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with Mark Grayless officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the funeral home. Military graveside rites to be performed by Wayne Newton American Legion Post 346. Online condolences may be left at:
