TERRE HAUTE —
Hugh Curtis Galloway Sr., was born Nov. 25, 1918, to Winona and Charles Galloway. He was an electrician for 37 years before retiring from Public Service Indiana, Wabash Generating Station, was a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1393 and a former executive board member.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bessie, to whom he was married 57 years; his son, Hugh C. Galloway Jr.; and brothers, Charles E. and Paul Galloway.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Hayne and husband William of Terre Haute; grandson, William Patrick Hayne and wife Kelley of Farmersburg; granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Smith and husband Jim of Decatur, Texas; great-grandson, William Mitchell Hayne of Farmersburg; great-granddaughter, Kelsey Leigh Smith of Dallas; several nieces, nephews, cousins; sisters-in-law, Martha Galloway of Rockville, and Irene Galloway of Roachdale; and special friend, Rosemary Burch of Brazil.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Union Christian Church. He was a 50-year member and past master of Social Lodge 86 Free & Accepted Masons, member of honor of Lodge 390 F&AM of Riley, member of Vigo County Association of Actual Past Masters F&AM of Indiana, member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 43, past associate guardian and member of honor of International Order of Job's Daughters, Bethel 2
For several years he was the youth football coach for the 7th and 8th grade Catholic Youth Organization. He was awarded the Catholic Youth Organization St. John Bosco Award for outstanding service to youth.
He loved flying and was a flight instructor for Brown Flying School for 21 years. In 1986 he received the Indianapolis District Flight Instructor of The Year Award. He was a member of the Wabash Valley Pilots Association. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the European Theatre, was a member of Wayne Newton American Legion Post 346, member of the Terre Haute Scottish Rite.-recipient of Metorious Service Award, member of Lawton Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, and was a former member of the Indiana Auctioneers Association.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with Mark Grayless officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military rites by VFW Post 972.
