Floyd Elmer Thompson Jr.

Brazil — Floyd Elmer Thompson Jr., 82, of Brazil, passed away unexpectedly, Aug. 13, 2012, at 1 a.m., at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He had been a patient at Kindred Transitional Care at Southwood Healthcare Facility, in Terre Haute, where he was trying to recover from many health problems. While there, he found many new friends in both patients and staff.

Floyd was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Eaton, Ill., the son of Floyd and Lucille Bowsman Thompson. When he was a toddler, his mother passed away and he was raised by his father and step-mother, Mable Luke Thompson.

He worked in the printing department for Inland Container in Indianapolis for more than 35 years. Following retirement he worked for Modern Vending for several years. He served in the Naval Reserves. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Aerie, in Indianapolis.

Floyd liked working in his yard and garden, raising beautiful flowers and vegetables. He loved his family and his pets, especially his buddy, Simon. He liked visiting with his neighbors and enjoyed several trips to Florida to visit with friends.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Sandra Thompson of Brazil, whom he married April 9, 1999; daughter, Jodi Thompson of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Ashley Cornicchoni and Damian Cornicchoni; and three great-grandchildren; step-sister, Judy Stone of Indianapolis; niece and nephew, Jennifer and Jeffery Long; several cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Long; step-sister, Mary Harmon; and his former wife, Donna Smith Stader.

Services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel, with Pastor Greg Puttmann officiating. Cremation was chosen with burial at a later date.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Humane Shelter, 8280 N. Co.
