  UPDATE 4: Deadly tornado roars through Oklahoma City suburb

  A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

Darrell Andrew ‘Whitey’ Bracken

TERRE HAUTE — Darrell Andrew “Whitey” Bracken, 55, of Terre Haute, passed away at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at IU Health Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis. He was born May 31, 1957, to Emery Bracken Sr. and Alberta Bracken.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darrell Elder Sr.; and a brother, Emery Bracken Jr.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Darrell Elder Jr. and fiancée, Rachel Manicke, Mindy Elder, and Peggy Elder; a great-granddaughter, Makenzie Elder; four sisters, Beverly Pegg, Norma Elkins, Jennie Cooper and Janet Criss; three brothers, Harry Bracken, Vern Bracken, and Don Bracken; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Darrell will be at 1 p.m. today, March 7, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time today. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Darrell Bracken Memorial Fund to assist with expenses, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
