Max B. Strange

Max was born Aug. 15, 1937, in Terre Haute, Ind. Max’s soul descended into the Heavens at 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013. Max was born to Annie Irene (Nally) and Kenneth Richard Strange, both were of Terre Haute.

Max is survived by one son, Dr. Martin Thomas Davis “Marty”, formally of Seelyville, Ind., and Thailand; two beautiful daughters, Penny Marie Wolfe and boyfriend Mark Christensen and Natalie N. Strange and husband Joey Haskins of Mattoon; two beautiful grandchildren, Justin E. Arthur and fiancée Leah Webb and Tiffanie M. Arthur and boyfriend Jessie Mills. Max also left behind a beautiful and very talented great-grandson, Austin Xavier Arthur, whom he adored very much. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He also is survived by one brother, Mike Strange and wife Linda of Effingham; a sister, Martha (Strange) Land and husband Bob of Decatur, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Two were special to his heart, Michael Wilson, and his brother, Mark Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, JoAnne (Strange) Wilson.

Max was a Korean War veteran, who spent time in Germany, and became a firefighter and a boxer. In the 1950s, he cut one record with four of his best buddies. After his service in the Korean War, he became an Iron Worker, in the Union Local #1 out of Chicago. He helped build Interstate 57 in the 1960’s and worked out of the Union Hall in Charleston, building the dorms at Eastern Illinois University. He also worked on the pipeline at Tuscola, Ill..

Max enjoyed fishing on the spillway at Lake Charleston and was an avid Ford man. He also enjoyed hanging out at the pool hall and sitting uptown on the square with his friends. He will be missed by many. Max enjoyed music, and would and could sing.

His graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Highland Lawn Cemetery, 4420 E. Wabash Ave., in Terre Haute, with military rites.  Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, in Charleston, Ill., assisted with arrangements.
