Maria S. Mia” Richards, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Royal Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 6, 1929, in Maastricht, Holland, to Joseph Hendrikx and Ursula Lumens Hendrikx.
She was a homemaker most of her life, and a nurse’s aide at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Terre Haute. She was an avid bowler in her younger years. Mia was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed working in her flower beds. Walking was one of her favorite things to do; she loved long walks that seemed to go on forever. Mia was a family person. She put her family first, always putting the needs of her family in front of her own needs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ursula; her husband of 64 years, Jerome K. Richards, who passed away on Feb. 17, 2013; and her eldest grandchild, Joshua Richards. She is survived by two sons, Gary J. Richards and his wife Beverly of Terre Haute, and Matthew A. Richards and his wife Merri of Missouri; five grandchildren, Elly Richards, Jessica Tegtmeyer, Steven Richards, James (Jimmy) Richards, and Gregory (Greg) Richards; two stepgrandchildren, Amy McQueary and Jessica (Jessie) Huffenberger; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Nicolas Hendrikx and Jean Hendrikx; she also is survived by many friends, family, and loved ones.
As were Mia’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. A private service for family will be held at a later date. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at:
