Erma Shores

TERRE HAUTE — Our mother, Erma Mae Shores, stepped into Heaven on Friday, March 8, 2013, on the “arm” of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on Feb. 19, 1922, in Vigo County, on Hayne Road on the Hayne Homestead, to Leo and Violet (Hayne) Schweiger. She grew up in rural Vigo County with her sister, Ina Lawson-Compton; and her loving parents, Violet and Charles David Lawson. She went to Fontanet School. She married Kenneth Warren Shores on Nov. 11, 1938. They were married until he went to be with his Savior on July 9, 2004.

Ken and Erma raised two daughters, Sharon Duncan (Don) and Nancy Irish (Charles).

Erma worked for Meis Department Store for 18 years and greatly enjoyed it, under her boss, Helen Turk. In retirement years, Ken and Erma returned to the Shores homeplace and traveled several times across the country. Ken and Erma have five grandchildren, Melanie Stout-Sayyah (Rod), Sherrie Stout, Nikki Irish-Hill (Luther), Kimberly Irish-Schacke (Jim), and Charles Lee Irish Jr., (Kim). They also have nine great-grandchildren.

Erma was anxiously looking forward to being reunited with her husband; her mother and father; stepfather; and son-in-law, Charles Irish Sr.; and many precious friends and relatives.

She was a wonderful wife and mother, a gentle and loving Gran, and a gracious friend to many. “Go rest high on that mountain” with Daddy. Dear Mother, your work on Earth is done. We will meet you in that morning.

Thank you, dear Cobblestone Health Center, for your kind love and care to Erma.  Thank you to nurse Sherrie for your songs and thanks to all the staff.

Visitation for Erma will be held at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with service to follow at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Herb with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
