CASEY, Ill. — Nettie Resch, 91, of Casey, passed away at 1 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2013, at Heartland Manor Nursing Center, in Casey. She was born Feb. 24, 1922, to Russell and Darrell Michael Hill. On March 26, 1946, she married Edward M. Resch with whom she spent many happy years until his death on May 22, 1981.
Nettie is survived by her son, Tracy Resch of Marshall, lll.; her former daughter-in-law, Marilyn Resch of Champaign, Ill; her daughter, Ann Resch and her husband Richard Waller of Anchorage, Alaska; and a sister-in-law, Jan Resch of Decatur, Ill. She also is survived by cousins, Robert Hill of Mattoon, Ill., James Mac Hill and his wife Ione of Mattoon, Ill., Robert Hill and his wife Doris of Charleston, Ill., and Bill Hill of Tuscola, Ill.
She was raised in Charleston, Ill., and graduated with a teacher’s certificate from Eastern Illinois University in 1944. She taught school for three years in Romulus, Mich., while her husband attended law school at the University of Michigan. They moved to Casey in 1952, and after raising her family Nettie resumed her teaching career at Casey High School, where she taught business, shorthand and typing for 21 years, retiring in 1987. Nettie was proud of her students and greatly enjoyed talking with each of them when she was “out-and-about.”
She was a member of Casey Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Casey Industries, Clark County Retired Teachers Association, Casey Country Club, and was a member and president of Casey Women’s Civic League. She also was a member and president of the board of Kline Memorial Library and served on the board of Lakeland College Foundation.
Nettie was an avid reader. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, traveling, and the friendship of fellow bridge players.
A memorial service will be held Monday, March 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. CDT at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., in Casey, with visitation an hour prior. The Rev. Dr. Penelope H. Barber will officiate. Burial will be private.
