James H. “Jim” Kuykendall

TERRE HAUTE — James H. “Jim” Kuykendall, 87, of Terre Haute, stepped into heaven at 12:33 a.m. April 3, 2011. He was born on Dec. 21, 1923, to Roy and Marie (Tatem) Kuykendall. He is survived, by his loving wife of 68 years, Loretta (Griffin) Kuykendall.

Also surviving are three children, James V. Kuykendall and wife Sue of Denton, Texas, Dr. Gerald L. Kuykendall and wife Candice of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Jeanine M. Weger and  husband Thomas of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, David Smithers and wife Breann, Allen Kuykendall and wife April, Clint Kuykendall, Laura Dedenbach and husband Gerry, Andrew Kuykendall, Thomas Weger, Jr. and wife Jennifer and Todd Weger and wife Tandy; six great-grandchildren, Rylee and Ryder Smithers, Mallory Kate and Truitt James Kuykendall and Hannah and Trey Weger; a sister, Marlyn Patten and husband Harvey; and a niece, Charlotte Galloway, of Covington, La.

Jim was a charter member and elder of Cross Lane Community Church. He loved his family, home, church and community.

Jim was employed at Hulman and Company for 52 years. He was hired July 2, 1942 and worked his way from the carpentry shop into the buying department. As a buyer he kept track of merging companies, foreign takeovers and the product manufacturing. He was a buyer for the company for 25 years.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Brett Wilson from Cross Lane Community Church, Mark Cameron, Terry Chandler, and music by Ross Willimann. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Cross Lane Community’s “Room to be Real” campaign. Envelopes will be made available at funeral home.
