Harry Fredrick ‘Rick’ Newburn III

TERRE HAUTE — Harry Fredrick “Rick” Newburn III, 63, of Terre Haute, passed away at 4:38 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in his residence. He was born Dec. 14, 1949, in Terre Haute, to Harry Frederick Newburn II and Ruth Brokaw Newburn.

Survivors include his companion of 24 years, Amy Heyen Rich; his daughter, Ginger L. Newburn of Greencastle; his son, Harry F. “Shim” Newburn IV of Knoxville, Tenn.; his stepdaughter, Courtney Rich of Terre Haute; his stepson, Jeremy Rich of Terre Haute; three sisters, Vickie Belfi of West Terre Haute, Stardust Newburn of Louisville, Ky., and Elizabeth Newburn of Paris, Ill.; five brothers, John Newburn, Jim Newburn, Matt Newburn, and Mark Newburn, all of West Terre Haute, and Mike Newburn of Terre Haute; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Poc. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sallee Newburn. Rick was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War during which he received the Purple Heart Medal with a bronze star in recognition of being wounded in battle on two separate occasions. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Rick will be sadly missed by lifelong friends and family.

According to Rick’s wishes, cremation has been scheduled. Graveside services for family and close friends will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, in New Providence Cemetery, with military graveside rites provided by the Marine Corps League Joseph A. Bray Detachment 471 Honor Guard. There will also be a celebration of life for all friends and family to gather and share memories from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574, 608 W. National Ave., West Terre Haute, with a tribute and military honors to be provided by the V.F.W. Color Guard at 5 p.m. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home of West Terre Haute assisted with the arrangements.
