John “Jack” T. DeLoughery
John “Jack” T. DeLoughery, 87, of Dennison and formerly of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 1, 1925 in Terre Haute to James DeLoughery and Ollie Dunlap DeLoughery. After earning a bachelor’s degree at Indiana State University, he was an Accountant and worked for several businesses including Motor Freight and Meis Department Store. After retirement, Jack worked for the Boston Connection.
Survivors include his sons, John DeLoughery of Dennison and Tom DeLoughery and his wife Jean Butcher of Portland, OR; a granddaughter, Emma DeLoughery of Portland, OR; a brother, Jim DeLoughery and his wife Carol of Indianapolis; two sisters, Bette Roberts of Logansport and Peggy Mitchell and her husband George of Nantucket, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Frances DeLoughery, and his parents.
Jack was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks # 86 and the Marine Corps League. He was proud of having enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines at the age of 17; he saw the world and brought the troops essential supplies. Jack was an avid golfer, a huge supporter of Indiana State athletics, and a lover of nature and animals. He also greatly enjoyed “going to town” to have lunch or dinner with his friends.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 6, 2012 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Father Joe Villa officiating. Visitation will be prior to services on Friday from 1:00– 2:00 PM in the funeral home. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, 599 South Tabor Town Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803 or St Patrick School Library, 449 South 19th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803 in Honor of Jack and Mary DeLoughery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cliff Crawford for all his fine care over many years.
