TERRE HAUTE — Kathleen Clare O’Mara McMahon, formerly of Terre Haute, died peacefully at her home in Avon, Indiana on Sunday, June 24, 2012. She was 82 years of age and leaves behind a family of 16 who will always love her dearly. Kathleen was born September 20, 1929 in Chicago to Kevin Patrick O’Mara and Marianne Heydon O’Mara, both of whom immigrated from Ireland in the early 1900s. She married her beloved husband of 55 years, Bernard Joseph McMahon, in 1953 and in 1961 the couple settled in Terre Haute where they made a life together that was rich with blessings. In 2008, Bernard preceded Kathleen in death.

She was active in community service as a volunteer at Union Hospital, the Visiting Nurse Association, and through Meals-on-Wheels outreach to the elderly. For many years, Kathleen was the recording secretary of the Terre Haute Turf Club. She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren, ordering her life on the principle of “others first.” Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Kathleen and husband Mark Chinn of Medford, N.J.; son, Kevin McMahon and wife Jennifer of Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.; son, Vincent McMahon and wife Maryanne of Avon; and grandchildren, Ryan and wife Jessica Chinn of Voorhees, N.J., Christopher and Connor Chinn of Medford, N.J.; Madeline, Peter, Margaret and Matthew McMahon of Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.; and Kateland and Keegan McMahon of Avon.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elizabeth Jane Marshalek of Milwaukee.

The wake will be Sunday, July 1, 2012, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 119 S. Ninth St., from 3 to 6 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 5:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be said Monday, July 2, 2012 at 12:05 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Philip T. Bowers and the Rev. Edmund Goldbach, OFM Conv., presiding. Graveside services will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmelite Sisters, 949 N. River Rd., Des Plaines, IL 60016; or to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 Eighth Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804; or to the charity of your choice.
