Charles W. ‘Bill’ Bathe

TERRE HAUTE — Charles W. “Bill” Bathe, of Terre Haute, passed away at age 90, on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012. He was born in Staunton, on Dec. 7, 1921, to parents, Vern and Agnes Bathe.  

He was an honorably discharged World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served overseas with the 95th Signal Services Battalion.

He was a meat cutter for 47 years at Kroger, IGA Foods, and Bazley’s Meat Market, prior to owning Bill’s Market in the 1960s and 1970s. He was an avid sportsman, mainly hunting and fishing, and was an active member of the NRA for many years. Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge 19 Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite of Terre Haute (32nd degree Mason), and American Legion Post 2.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 70 years, Mary A. Bathe; and his son, Timothy V. Bathe. He also was preceded in death by three aunts and one uncle. Bill is survived by one son, Rick W. Bathe of Terre Haute; three cousins, one living in Bullhead, Ariz., and two living in Los Angeles; and a very special friend and foster son, Vernon T. Pruitt of Terre Haute.

Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Meadows Manor East Convalescent & Rehabilitation or Hospice of the Wabash Valley in lieu of flowers. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, in Terre Haute, was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at:
