TERRE HAUTE — John Raymond Sharp Jr., 65, of Terre Haute, passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, in his residence. He was born July 1, 1947, in Dresser, Ind., to John Sharp Sr. and Virginia Compton Sharp. He retired from the Putnamville Prison as a correctional officer. He served in Vietnam in the United States Army, Company A 2/50th Infantry. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 972.

He loved fishing, NASCAR, and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved his cats, Oreo and Blackie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Sharp; and brothers-in-law, Charles Cooper and Larry Hicks. He is survived by his son, John Robert Sharp; brothers, Ronald Sharp and wife Susan, Isaac Sharp and wife Trella, Edward Sharp, David Sharp, and Bradley Sharp; sisters, Rosemary Hicks, Nora Cooper, Penny Hooker and husband Wayne, and Debra Eversole and husband Harold; and several nieces and nephews. He also is survived by long time companion, Debbie White.

Services will be today, Aug. 17, 2012, at 12 noon with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, in Terre Haute. The Rev. Kyle Andrews will be officiating. Online condolences can be made at: www.greinerfuneralhome.com
