John M. Raab, 74, of rural Clay County, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, following a brief illness.
He was born in Clay County Dec. 6, 1938, the son of Ralph and Olive (Baumunk) Raab. John graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1957. After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served three years before being honorably discharged in 1960. Upon his return home, he enrolled in Indiana State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in industrial arts. Although he was a teacher by education, his life’s work was on the farm with his family.
He was a member of Croy’s Creek Congregational Church.
Along with his parents, Ralph and Olive Raab, John was preceded in death by his sister, Rosetta Brown, and a brother, David Raab.
John is survived by two nephews, Michael Brown (Sheree) of Georgia and John Michael Raab (Susan) of Missouri; two nieces, Amy Kaiser (Jeff) and Jill Smith (Matt) all of Missouri; sister-in-law, Christine Raab of Missouri; great-nieces and -nephews, Lance Cpl. Nicholas Brown, Rebecca Brown, Garrett Brown, Josephine Raab, Jenette Raab, Caroline Kaiser, Catherine Kaiser, Jack Kaiser, David Smith and Sarah Smith, as well as several cousins and extended family members.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at Croy’s Creek Congregational Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at French Funeral Home, and again at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday.
