CLAY CITY — Martha Lou Hasler, 85, of Clay City, was called home to Glory, Feb. 7, 2013, at Union Hospital following complications of a stroke. She was born in Champagne County, Ill., Sept. 27, 1927, the daughter of Albert and Jennie (Bond) Greenwood. In her youth she attended Merom Elementary school in Merom, Ind.   Martha graduated from Jefferson Township Coal City High School in 1946, where she was a valued member of the girls basketball team. She studied at House of James Beauty College, in Indianapolis, as a beautician. She owned Martha's Beauty Shop, in Clay City, for many years. She also was the proprietor of her own craft shop, The Blue Angel Gift Shop.

Martha enjoyed making crafts where she won many ribbons through the local and state fairs. She was an avid member of Heritage Baptist Church in Coal City, where she loved attending church and Sunday School. She may be remembered most for her wonderful cooking ability which she shared in several cookbooks. She spent her quiet time reading the Bible and watching birds.

Martha was a member of the Gideon's Ladies Auxiliary and a former chaplain.  Martha shared her love of Christ through Prison Ministry, where she wrote numerous letters to inmates sharing the Word of God.

In addition to her parents, Albert and Jennie Greenwood, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Greenwood, Edward “Herman” Greenwood, and Donald Greenwood.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lowell Hasler; sons, Dennis Max Hasler (Carol) of Terre Haute, Terry Allen Hasler (Tammye) of Indianapolis, and Jeffrey Lynn Hasler (Stephanie) of Rosedale; 24 grandchildren, Amy Miller (George Perez), Shelly Johnson (Bill), Kristi Opalesky (Dan), Cindy Koessler (Kevin), Joseph Hasler (Sarah), Gabrielle Hasler (Alessandra Guarino), Timothy Hasler (Jenny), Taylor Hasler, Aaron Hasler (Tara), Matthew Hasler (Karyn), Ashley Hasler (Adam Longshore), Tyler Engle (Colleen), Derek Engle (Kaila Clements); 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; dear friends, Bob and Rose Orman; close niece and nephew, Helen Louise Meserve and Charles Greenwood; as well as many extended family members.

Services will be at Heritage Baptist Church, Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Steve Tyra officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Cemetery. Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St., in Clay City, Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Sunday from 2 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International of Clay County, P.O. Box 271, Brazil, IN 47834. Visit www.schoppenhorstfuneralhome.com to light a candle in her memory.
