Robert A. Hoopengarner

TERRE HAUTE — Robert A. Hoopengarner, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 26, 1930, in Prairie Creek, to Alva and Mae Jackson Hoopingarner. He was employed by AT&T for more than 39 years as a technician.

He was a former member of the Terre Haute Shrine, a member of Free & Accepted Masons, and a charter member of Honey Creek Township Fire Department. He also was a Boy Scout and Webelo leader. Robert was a kind and gentle man who loved his children, grandchildren, and especially his four new great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Kathy Shafer.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Hoopengarner; one daughter, Cheryl Singer and husband Roger; one son, Robert Craig Hoopengarner; five grandchildren, Nicholas Uhl and wife Erin, Dane Uhl and wife Shelly, Brandon Hoopengarner and Heather Switzer, and Shane Weber and wife Kaitlyn; five great-grandchildren, Addison, Ian and Samantha Uhl, Ellie Grace Hoopengarner, and Evie Marie Weber; a son-in-law, Brad Shafer; one sister, Pauline Hill and husband William; and one nephew, Dan Hill.

A memorial mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2405 S. Seventh St., with Father Rick Ginther officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, at the church. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., was entrusted with arrangements.
