Marjorie Brown

Marjorie Brown, 91, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, Jan. 24, 2013, while being lovingly attended by members of her family in the home she lived in for 73 years. She was born March 10, 1921, to Aaron and Emogean Pratt Smith, who preceded her in death; as did her husband of 59 years, Arthur Brown, who died 14 years and 11 days earlier, in the same bed in the same room. She also was preceded in death by granddaughter, Andrea Dinkel, who passed away Oct. 26, 2008.

Survivors include one son, Gary Brown and wife Kay of Brazil; two daughters, Susan Werremeyer and husband Bill of Clinton, and Nancy Dinkel and husband John of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Barbara Black and husband Dennis of Fort Wayne, Jennifer Brown and companion Rob Williams of Seelyville, Amy Spendel and husband Chris of Clinton, Christy Werremeyer, Scott Hamilton, Stephanie McKay and husband Chad. In addition she was “great-grandma” to 11 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, and Jarred Black, Caitlin and Karsen Rider, Rachel and Emily Spendal, Carley Werremeyer, Chyne Noble, Tyler Burke; and Terrell Butler. She also leaves behind a special nephew, Allen Mack Donnley; and several nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.

Although she spent a few years in the early 1940s during World War II working at Quaker Maid, “putting olives in bottles,” most of her years were dedicated to being a housewife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor; jobs she totally enjoyed. In her later years, besides her family, there were three additional loves in her live; going for rides, eating ice cream, and her little black dog, Barney.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Funeral home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services Wednesday, with Brother Ansil Harpold, of Country Hope Church, in Clinton, officiating.
