Emma Jean Jackson

MONTEZUMA — Emma Jean Jackson, 91, of Montezuma, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in Clinton Gardens. She was a homemaker. She was born May 13, 1921, in Mecca, to the late John Preece and Dollie “Laura Jane” Woods Preece. Her husband of 47 years, Herschel R. Jackson, whom she married July 26, 1941, died July 12, 1989.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Jackson Woodard and son-in-law, Charlie Woodard of Rockville; a special niece, Vickie Ugo Oldham and husband Clyde Oldham of Rosedale; one grandson, Bradley Woodard; two great-grandsons, Trenton and Alex Woodard; and special great-nephew, Jason Brown.

She was the 1939 valedictorian of Mecca High School. She was a domestic engineer with great pride, and was well known for her noodle making. She was a member of Daily Chapel Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school most of her adult life. She devoted time to her family so they could pursue careers. During World War II, she was the administrative assistant to the president of the Federal Bank of Atlanta, Ga. She carried her bookkeeping skills into her personal life.

She also was preceded in death by four sisters, Patty Preece, Betty Pritchard, Ethal Bill, and Reba Swaim; and one brother, Paul Preece.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., in Rockville, with the Rev. Jack Holycross officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, in North Terre Haute. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Daily Chapel Christian Church, 6767 W. 600 South, Rosedale, IN 47874, in her memory.
