Jimmie L. Strange, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away in his residence at 6:55 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14 2013. Jimmie was born in Robinson, Ill., on Sept. 17 1936, to Byrl and Viola (Hargis) Strange. He was a 1954 graduate of Robinson High School.

He was initiated into Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 157 on June 29, 1953, while still in high school. He served his apprenticeship as steam fitter/welder. He had 59 years of continuous membership in the local.

Jimmie was elected to the Examining Board as Welder Examiner from 1958-1962. He was appointed Business Agent to organize the Gas Distribution Systems in the state of Indiana in June 1968, elected to Executive Board 1969-1971, and appointed to the position of financial secretary-treasurer Jan. 1, 1977. He was elected as financial secretary-treasurer in 1978, and held the position until his retirement in 1992.

Jimmie has been recognized and received several awards for his work including: “Union Member of the Year” award (1980), the ”Margaret Banker Community Service” award (1983) from the Wabash Valley Central Labor Council, and the “Terre Award” from the Chamber of Commerce (1984) among many others.

Jimmie was a member of several civic organizations including the Robinson Masonic Lodge 250, Terre Haute Scottish Rite and Zorah Shrine.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Barbara Strange; sons, J.B. and (Brenda) Strange, Jeff Strange, Joseph and (Stacy) Brentlinger, Phillip and (Chris) Marone; stepdaughters, Carol Holcomb and (Cody), Savannah Greenleaf and (Michael); eight grandchildren, Jay Strange, Brittney Strange, Joseph Brentlinger III, Jordan Brentlinger, Madison Marone, Katie Holcomb, Kinzie Holcomb, and Tristan Greenleaf. He also is survived by an uncle, aunts, and several cousins.

According to his wishes, Jimmie is scheduled for cremation and there will be no service. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice of The Wabash Valley, 400 8th Ave. Terre Haute, IN 47804. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
