Lucius M. Wells

TERRE HAUTE — Lucius M. Wells, 80, departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Union Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 7, 1932, to Oilie Taylor Wells and Milton M. Wells in Terre Haute. Lucius was a lifelong resident of Terre Haute.

He was a member of the Israel of God’s Church for many years. He was a 1951 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and then went on to serve in the military during the Korean War. He retired from AET, formerly Hercules, after 28 years of employment. Lucius was described as a quiet man with an infectious smile who loved his family dearly. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with family, especially his grandchildren, traveling and gaining new experiences. He also was the supportive grandfather who frequented his grandchildren’s athletic events and dance recitals. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and fulfilled his dream of seeing them play at Wrigley field. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Lucius was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen; two sisters; and four brothers. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Vivian Allensworth Wells of 61 years; three sons, Frederick (Gladys) of Louisville, Ky., Jerrold (Adrean) of Terre Haute, and Kevin (Dr. Mureena Turnquest) of Newburgh; daughter, Phyllis Wells Mullins (Clarence) of Fishers; sister, Helen Taylor (Robert) of Galesburg, Ill.; brother, Robert Wells of Sycamore, Ill.; five granddaughters, Tara Wells, Noblesville, Dr. Lindsay Wells, Los Angeles, Alana Wells, San Antonio, Sarah Wells, Terre Haute, and Gabrielle Mullins, Fishers; two grandsons, Sean Wells, Terre Haute, and Blair Wells, Newburgh; and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Israel of God’s Church, 801 Gilbert Ave., in Terre Haute. Friends and family may visit from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. Russell Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
