Mable B. Summers

TERRE HAUTE — Mable B. Summers, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Kindred Southwood. She was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Vigo County, to Beldon and Cecil (Brock) Brenton. She married Jack Summers on Oct. 1, 1949.  Mable previously worked at Campbell’s Soup, Logan Printing, and Columbia Records, before she became a full-time homemaker.  

She attended church at Victory Christian Center. She had the gift of crocheting and made many beautiful doilies and afghans. She enjoyed fishing. Mable and Jack cherished the time they spent together during their twice-yearly fishing trips to Kentucky.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack; a stepdaughter, Judy Summers, and a stepson, Jim Summers and wife Peggy, all of Terre Haute; stepgrandchildren, Alison Dykes and husband Kevin of Plainfield, and Joe Summers and wife Crystal of Byesville, Ohio; stepgreat-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Cameron Summers of Byesville, and Alex and Audrey Dykes of Plainfield; sisters, Gertrude Cuffle and Betty Cuffle, both of Terre Haute; brother, Estel Brenton and wife Vickie of Springfield, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Alan K. Summers and friend Martin Portnoy of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Jean Higginbotham; grandsons, Curt Keller and wife Penny, Brad Keller, and Michael Keller; great-grandchildren, Harley and Derrick Keller; a special friend, Betty Stephens of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lester Brenton and Johnny Brenton; and sisters, Loreen Kaneski and Pauline Dean.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Summers officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  Online condolences may be made at:
