Nancy Ann (Nan) Nesting

Nancy Ann (Nan) Nesting, 83, of Terre Haute passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012.  She was born November 28, 1929 in Charleston, IL to Edward Pauley and Mary Elizabeth (Hayes) Redman.

Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Charles Stanard Nesting;  four children, John Nesting of Terre Haute, Paul Nesting (Sally Dickson) of Indianapolis, IN, Sally Eppert (Richard) of Fishers, IN and Molly Davis (Edward) of Louisville, KY;  5 grandchildren;  2 great-grandchildren;  two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Redman of Dana, IN and Sue Chandler of San Antonio, TX;  a brother-in-law, Dr. Donald Nesting of San Antonio, TX;  and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  and a brother, Robert Milton Redman.

Nan graduated from Wiley High School in 1947 and attended Butler University where she pledged Tri Delta.  She then transferred to and graduated from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque in 1950.  She loved her Tri Deltas and was an active alumnus helping out at ISU.

In 1951, Chuck and Nan embarked on a great adventure to Anchorage, Alaska for 2 _ years.  They left Denver that fall and drove for 10 days up the new Alcan Highway (a two-lane gravel road).  There were no hotels along the way, just huts left over from the construction of the highway.  During their time in Alaska, Nan and Chuck learned to ski and snow shoe along with hunting, camping and fishing.

Nan was a retired Interior Designer. In 1972, she and Ann Hartmann started Interior Arts, Inc.  They were very successful and had a great time together.  Later, Nan went into business by herself at Nan Nesting Interiors. Nan was a devoted wife and mother and loved to socialize with her friends. In addition to being an avid skier, she also enjoyed golfing and travel.  Nan had a sweet personality, with never a bad word to say about anyone.

She was actively involved in several groups in town including Tri Kappa, League of Terre Haute, TOBIES and was a 50+ years member of P.E.O.  Nan was a member of the SPS club at Wiley High School and along with her husband, Chuck, enjoyed their memberships at the Swope Art Museum, Sycamore Club and Terre Haute Country Club.

The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to the staff at Providence Healthcare of St. Mary-of-the-Woods.  We thank them for the superior care Nan received and the love and support we received!

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 4, 2013 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating.  Burial will be in Bono Cemetery near Dana, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 3rd from 3:00-7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Swope Art Museum, 25 South 7th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807 or to Chapter AW of the P.E.O. (for the benefit of college scholarships for local girls and other good works), c/o T. Maher, 2000 Bolton Road, West Terre Haute, IN 47885.
