TERRE HAUTE —
Hester F. Chance, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at her residence. Hester was born in Terre Haute on Jan. 8, 1931, the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Godfreed) Irons. She was united in marriage of June 14, 1968, in Terre Haute, to the love of her life, William J. Chance, Sr. Hester worked as a secretary in the yearbook department at Indiana State University before she retired. A very kind and considerate woman, Hester never knew a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed bowling, walking, shopping and dining out. Hester was a true lady, whose memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched for years to come.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 42 years, William J. Chance Sr.; stepson, William J. “Bill” Chance Jr. and wife Linda of Terre Haute; stepdaughter, Dee and husband Greg Emmert of Houston, Texas; sister, Norma and husband Howard Woods of Milton, Fla.; along with several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Hester was welcomed home to heaven by her son, David Allen Branson; siblings, William Ray, Thursia Mae, Esther Melvina and Maxine Ruth; along with her niece, Carla Elliott.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, from 1 p.m. until Hester’s funeral ceremony at 2 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home. Private interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park. The entire Chance family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of VistaCare Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Hester in her final days.
