Robert ‘Barney’ Lee Wells

CENTER POINT — Robert “Barney” Lee Wells, 87, of Center Point, passed away Dec. 26, 2012. He was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Brazil, the son of Bert and Jesse (Deal) Wells. He attended Brazil High School. Barney served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He served on the USS LST 292 and was a part of the Normandy Invasion. In 1948 he married Dorothy Jean McMichael who survives him.

Barney was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ; a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972; American Legion Post 2, Silver Sneakers, and he was a former member of the Swinging Mates Square Dance group. He enjoyed camping, traveling, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and was quite a talented carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Jesse Wells; brother, Alfred Wells; sister, Francis Mager; and a granddaughter, Alicia Davis.

Barney is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Wells; a son, Ron (Karen) Wells of Brazil; a daughter, Carol Wells also of Brazil; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Aaron) Overton of Brazil, Becky (Jerry) Siddons of Brazil, Connie (Kenny) Reedy of Brazil, Robin (Shawn) Richmond of Robinson, Ill., Jonathan Andreas of Brazil, and Shawn Overton of Terre Haute, and Larry Davis of Danville, Ind.; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as a niece, Peg Brackney; and several extended family members.

Services will be at French Funeral Home, Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Franklin Haines officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com to light a candle in his memory.
