Jerry H. Patterson

TERRE HAUTE — Jerry H. Patterson, 90, of Oakland City, passed away on April 30, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 19, 1922, in Terre Haute, to Homer Robert and Eva Euphemia (Willison) Patterson. He was raised at Chauncey Rose Orphanage, and as an adult volunteered many hours to maintaining the orphanage. Jerry was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. He married Delma Etheridge on Aug. 22, 1942, and together they had five daughters. He proudly served in the Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theater. He was awarded three bronze stars for his service.

Jerry enjoyed singing and was a member of the Banks of the Wabash Chorus until 2007. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and the American Legion. Jerry had a passion for genealogy and was a member of the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society. He enjoyed traveling.

Jerry is survived by his daughters, Jerri Harrison and her husband Stephen of Santa Barbara, Calif., Linda Banks and her husband Bill of Atlanta, Jan Pearson and her husband Gordon of Dallas, Alicia Barbour and her husband John of Princeton, and Denise Nichols and her husband John of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and one on the way; brothers, Harold Patterson and Clyde Albert Patterson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; long time companion, Edythe Ingle; his former wife, Delma; his brother, George Robert Patterson; and a sister, Geraldine Eva Patterson.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 4, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services will be on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Rockhill officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites performed by VFW Post 972. Online condolences may be made at: www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
