TERRE HAUTE — Velma Maxine Balding, 74, of Terre Haute, passed away July 12, 2012, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Burnett, on Sept. 27, 1937, to Aid Bennett and Letha Drake Bennett.

She was a food service employee for the Terre Haute House for many years. She was a member of the 25th Street Community Mission Church as well as the Joppa Friendship Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her dogs, and helping her community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Balding; brothers, Clyde Bennett, and Herbert Bennett; and a sister, Elizabeth Bennett.

She is survived by one son, Todd Bennett of Terre Haute; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at Joppa Friendship Baptist Church, with visitation from 2 p.m. until service time, at the church. Pastor Tom Roeschlein will be officiating.
