Paul R. ‘Baldy’ Kennedy

Paul R. “Baldy” Kennedy, 86, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of service as a rural mail carrier. He was born Feb. 1, 1926, in West Terre Haute, to Oliver Kennedy and Ruth Neice Kennedy.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary M. Holmes Kennedy; a daughter, Mary Ellen Morgan and husband Jay of Chandler, Ariz.; a son, Jerry Kennedy and wife Cheryl of West Terre Haute; a sister, Ada Vicars of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Kelly Nylander and husband Micah of Maricopa, Ariz., Jenny Morgan of Encinitas, Calif., Todd Kennedy and wife Kelli of Terre Haute, and Kirsten McGrew and husband Jay of Terre Haute; nine great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Bailee, Joshua, Peighton, Kamryn, Haleigh, Trevor, Kadien, and Holden; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and Chester Kennedy.

Ray was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ for more than 50 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He also was a 50 year member and past master of West Terre Haute Lodge 687 Free & Accepted Masons, where he served as master in 1968, a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, a 50 year member of the Zorah Shrine, and a member of American Legion Post 501, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honorguard. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Church of Christ or to VistaCare Hospice, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
