Ruth Ann Nees

TERRE HAUTE — Ruth Ann Nees, 73, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born on Nov. 9, 1938, to Gilbert and Helen Stockwell, of West Terre Haute. She was a 1956 graduate of Valley High School and attended Indiana School of Business. She retired from Terre Haute South Vigo High School as a secretary in the Special Education Department. Her office and heart were always open to anyone who needed her help. She loved working with high school students. Ruth Ann had been an area representative for Youth for Understanding (YFU) exchange program, placing many international teens with area families in the 1980s and 90s.

She and her husband Larry operated Nees Farms in southern Vigo County as their life-long career.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving family, her husband of 52 years, Larry Nees; a son, Bradley Nees; a daughter, Susan Poynter; son-in-law, Kevin Poynter; and a grandson, Evan Poynter, all of Terre Haute.

She will be missed by her family, many extended international sons and daughters she counted as family, her cats, and all the people whose hearts she touched with her kindness. May she rest in peace with her Heavenly Father.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday. Aug. 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rich Conley officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, West Terre Haute, is handling the arrangements.
