BRAZIL —
Kenneth O. Hood, 83, of Brazil, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, following difficulties after surgery.
Ken was born in Carbon, Ind., Dec. 27, 1928, the son of Fred O. Hood and Cynthia (Pell) Hood. He graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1946. He will be remembered by his classmates by his last second shot that won the game between the Brazil Red Devils and the Van Buren Blue Devils in the 1946 sectional game. Ken served his country during the Korean War having been honorably discharged in 1952 as a Master Sergeant. Shortly after his return home he married Margaret Salitros Nov. 1, 1952. Ken had worked for the Peter Eckrich Company for 37 years as a route salesman retiring in 1989.
Ken enjoyed watching sports, fishing, hunting, gardening and especially spending time with friends and family.
Ken was a member of the American Legion Post 2, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127, and the Fraternal Order of the Elks 762.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Cynthia Hood; two sisters, Mildred Jean Heitz and Norma Lee Fay; two brothers, Don Hood and Gerald Scott Hood in infancy; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Hood.
Ken leaves behind his wife of 59 years Margaret Hood; a daughter, Rita Harden and husband Paul Harden; two sons, Kenneth Kurt Hood of Brazil and Eric Joseph “Joe” Hood and wife Erin of Brazil; grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband Chad Swalls of Terre Haute, Alyssa Hood of Brazil, Cassie Hood of Brazil, Matt Harden of Center Point, and Emily Harden of Center Point; great-grandson, Warren “Ren” Luther Swalls; siblings, Delores Mercer and husband Ken of Mooresville, Tom Hood of Brazil, Becky Crowe and husband Dick of Bloomington, Dick Hood and wife Sandy of Columbus, Ohio, and Bob Hood and wife Rhea of Brazil; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel Saturday Aug. 4, 2012 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery with military tribute provided by members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United States Army.
