TERRE HAUTE —
Amos H. ”Smitty” Smith, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012, at his home. Amos was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Terre Haute, the son of Murphy “Bud” and Emma (Kirby) Smith. He was retired from Polymar Plastics, loved to golf, and going to the Legion and telling old stories to anybody who would listen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Janet (Herter) Smith; infant daughter, Sharon; special stepson, James Lawton Rogers; beloved grandson, Ronald “Eric” Amos; stepgranddaughter, Erica Rogers; and brothers, Charles, Leroy and Cecil (Shad) Smith.
Smitty is survived by daughter, Cheryl Smith; stepson, Rick (Maureen) Rogers; three grandchildren to whom he was like a father, Dustin Roberts, Travis Prince and September Russell. Also surviving are stepgrandchildren Starla, Laura and Kim Rogers; and six stepgreat-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Felcia, Eric, Asha, Destiny, Brooklyn, Bobby and Julie; and great-great-grandson, Julian; a special uncle to several nieces and nephews; and a life-long friend Louie Nuss.

A celebration of life will be Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Pentecostal House of Prayer, 1526 Harding Ave., at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Andy Merritt officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in North Terre Haute.
