Alma E. Rector

TERRE HAUTE — Alma E. Rector, 94 years and 11 months old, went home to be with her Lord and Savior; husband of 73 years, Donald Rector and two sons: Harold “Sonny” Rector and Donald “Shorty” Rector, June 22, 2012 at 2:21 p.m. in Indianapolis following a lengthy illness.

Alma was born July 19, 1917, in Spencer, Ind., the daughter of Raymond Otis and Maude Jane (Conder) Edwards. She was raised in Terre Haute and attended Gerstmeyer Technical School. She married Donald L. Rector Jan. 30, 1936; he preceded her in death in 2009. Alma and Don were both active in the Bridgeton Baptist Church and the East Glen Senior Citizens Group. Before moving to Indianapolis to be closer to her daughter they lived in what they called “Paradise” in Fallen Rock, Ind.

Alma showed her love to others by blessing them with her cooking. She was an AVID euchre player, loved sewing, going on country drives, and especially enjoyed pets. Alma served her church as a youth Sunday School teacher for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Krockenberger and husband Donald of Brownsburg; grandchildren: Vicki Fudge, Lyla Snyder – Rector, Tamara Kear, Michelle Chess, Jason Krockenberger, Sarah Krockenberger, and Adam Krockenberger; seven great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Rector.

Services will be noon Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Lawson – Miller Chapel, with Sharon Fry officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clay County Humane Society P.O.
