TERRE HAUTE —

Dorothy Nell Reichert, 71, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Union Hospital. She was born Aug. 7, 1940, in Greenville, Miss., to Holland Harris and Eileen Brown Harris. She was a retired school teacher from Clay County School Corp.

She will be missed by two brothers, James Harris and wife Nell of Tulsa, Okla., and Jerry Harris of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, JoAnn Backoff and husband James, and Shirley Vela, all Reno, Nev.; and five nieces and six nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald Reichert; brother, Holland L. Harris; and sister, Hazel Orman

She was a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Women of the Moose, American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Fraternal Order of Eagles

She graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis. She received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree from Indiana University. She taught elementary school in Noblesville.

She and her husband then lived in Florida for two years. They then moved to Brazil, and she taught school at Clay City elementary. Her husband Ron was a pilot for Continental Airlines. Nell had her pilot’s license and was a certified scuba diver; she was also an accomplished skeet shooter. She traveled extensively and lived a year in Germany. She loved taking cruises and her favorite one was to Alaska.

Services and burial will be at a later date in Pine Bluff, Ark. In her memory, donations can be made to your favorite charity. Mattox Wood Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
