TERRE HAUTE — Overton (Bud) William Pendergast Jr., 87, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012. Bud, born Nov. 23, 1924, spent his life in Terre Haute until moving to Zionsville in 2010. He had secondary residences in Leland, Mich. and Oriental, N.C.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Fortner Pendergast; children, Gail Barrett, Janeen, Mark, Christine Rose and Alan; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 25 nieces and nephews.

Bud graduated from Garfield High School in 1943, then served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Europe during World War II. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University in 1950. Bud helped run a number of family businesses, retiring as chairman of Unique Graphics. He had a passion for IU and was a member of the Varsity Club, Well House Society and Delta Tau Delta. He loved to sail, fish, fly small planes, travel and camp with his family.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Overton W. Pendergast Sr. and Gertrude Kadel Pendergast; and brothers, James and Donald.

The family is planning a private memorial service. Memorials may be made to any charity. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. Online condolences can be left at: www.flannerbuchanan.com
