TERRE HAUTE —
William “Bill” Wilson, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Meadows Manor North. He was born April 25, 1924, in Vigo County, the son of the late Dollie and William Wilson. He was a veteran of World War II who proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Armed Guard carrying ammunition to Italy.
He was a member of Northwest Church of Christ having been baptized at the age of 84. He also was a member of the American Legion Krietenstein Post 104 in Terre Haute, West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 687 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, Kerman Grotto, Millwrights Union Local 1076, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He completed 50 years of continuous membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was a hardworking carpenter and millwright worker. He lived most of his life in the country with his family. He always enjoyed taking care of farm animals and having a garden and flowers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hortense (Forsythe) Wilson, who passed away on March 9, 2010. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Smith; and his brother, George Wilson. Survivors include four sons, Bill Wilson and his wife Carolyn of West Terre Haute, David Wilson and his wife Dianna of Terre Haute, Tom Wilson and his wife Lynn of Mashpee, Mass., and Robert Wilson and his friend Betty Miller of Universal; a daughter, Nancy Wilson of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren, Cary Burch, William Wilson Jr., Julie Brand, Angie Jones, Kristi Wilson, Thomas Wilson, Amy Beth Wilson, Jonathon Wilson, Samantha Wenzel, Meiko, Amy Crum, and Rob Bozworth; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Haynes and her husband Will of Smyrna, Tenn., Barbara Forsythe of Terre Haute, and Marva Forsythe of Florence, Ala.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bill’s funeral service and celebration of his life will be 12 noon Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., in West Terre Haute, beginning with a Masonic memorial service by West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 687 followed by services with the Rev. David Grubb officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 104. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. The family wishes to thank everyone at Meadows Manor North and Southern Care Hospice for taking exceptional care of our Dad during his stay there.
