John Thomas Graham

SULLIVAN — John Thomas Graham, 88, of Sullivan, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Sullivan County Community Hospital in Sullivan.

The son of Hinkle James Levi and Mary R. (Nash) Graham, John was born on Sept. 2, 1924, in Sullivan. He was a retired master maintenance mechanic from Indiana Michigan Electric Co. Breed Plant. John served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Throughout the years John was a member of the American Legion Post 139, VFW Post 2459, Sullivan BPOE 911, past president of the International Brotherhood of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and after retiring he volunteered at the Sullivan County Food Bank. John was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed sharing the vegetables and fruits from his garden with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in Sullivan and Lawrence Counties.   

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Raymond Graham of Bloomington.

Survivors include his wife Gloria (Webb) Graham; one son, John F. Graham of Sullivan; three daughters, Jeanne Ann Graham of Sullivan, Susan K. (Randy) Horton of Sullivan and Phyllis Graham of Sullivan; seven grandchildren; Melissa Horton (Josh Blunck), Thomas Horton, Katie Graham (Andrew Pappas), Jacque Graham, Erica Graham (Nick Stearley), Sean Campbell (Faith Tobeck), and Nathan Graham, two great-grandchildren; Gabe and Gracie Stearley, one sister; Hester Shultz of Indianapolis, several nieces and nephews as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, with the Rev. Dale Wise officiating. Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery located in Sullivan, with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legion Post and VFW Post. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Oct. 4, 2012, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sullivan First Christian Church, 105 North Broad Street, Sullivan, IN 47882.
