Richard James Alcock

TERRE HAUTE — Richard (Dick) James Alcock passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. Dick was born in Culver, Ind., on March 9, 1942. Dick was raised in Plymouth, Ind., most of his young life.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in Plymouth and Indiana University. After graduation from IU he practiced physical therapy at St. Joseph’s Hospital in South Bend for two years. In 1967 he moved to Terre Haute and worked in the physical therapy department at St. Anthony’s Hospital. He then opened a private Physical Therapy office in Terre Haute. Later he became the director of the physical therapy department at Union Hospital where he spent most of his career until retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, IU Varsity Club, Strawberry Hill Cannoneers, and the Country Club of Terre Haute. Dick had a passion for golf, was a truly great fan of IU Athletics and valued the time he spent with his family.  

Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Bidwell Alcock; brother, John William Alcock; sister, Sally Ann Pfafflin; one daughter, Ann Froderman (Chris Froderman) of Avon; three sons, Steve Alcock (Cathy Alcock) of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Chris Alcock (Kelly Alcock) of Zionsville, and Andy Alcock (Laura Bloxdorf Reynolds) of Evansville; and 15 grandchildren, Lindsay Alcock, Jane Alcock, Lauren Alcock, Coby, Carly, and Casey Froderman, Nick, Will, Ben, Jacob, Luke, Lillian, Cecilia, Sabina, and Rosemary Alcock. He was preceded in death by parents, Viola Bernice Crump Alcock and William Enos Alcock.

An open house celebration of life will take place at the Country Club of Terre Haute on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to Wabash Valley Community Foundation, 2901 Ohio Blvd., Suite 153, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
