TERRE HAUTE —

Joseph Elmer Kish, 92, of Terre Haute, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012. He was born May 8, 1920, in South Bend, to Frank J. Kish and Grace Nafrady Kish.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret “Meg” Reintjes Kish. He is survived by his daughters, Bernadette Kish of Unionville, Ind., and Rita Elizabeth Kish Bond of Indianapolis; son-in-law, Jeffrey Bond; granddaughters, Emily (Jamie) Bond Cox and Sarah (Nick) Bond Clarkson; and great-grandsons, Dean and Logan Clarkson.

Joseph served in the U.S. Navy and was one of the first Americans going ashore at Yokosuka, Japan. After World War II, he attended Indiana State University, where he earned a master’s degree. He served ISU consecutively as Director of Public Relations, Director of Information Services and associate director of the ISU Foundation. His 35-year tenure ended upon his retirement in 1985.

He loved fishing, table tennis, and playing golf at the Elks Club. Joe Kish never met a stranger.

Visitation will be at Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home 5342 East Washington St., in Indianapolis, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012. Graveside services will be held the following day in Terre Haute, at Calvary Cemetery, 4227 Wabash Ave., at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012.
